Over the Andes
We left Cuzco in a Toyota Land Cruiser and headed East and up into the mountains. Late that night we were headed downhill on the East side of the Andes and spent the night at a ramshackle little way-station. Before going to bed I walked about 100 meters down the road and stopped to look out over the jungle. I could hear a great deal of rustlings, whirrings, and other sounds of the creatures exuberantly eating each other. The next morning we headed on down to our final destination, Atalaya, a depot more than anything else. Here we switched from the truck to a canoe for the trip down-river to Boca Manu (Mouth Manu), our gateway into the Bioshphere Reserve.
